River’s Edge is located along Woods Creek in the city of Monroe, Washington. The site had been used for various industrial purposes for more than 100 years and sits within a 200-foot critical area buffer for Woods Creek. The new 3-story, garden style, 160-unit apartment project was financed with tax credits and provides affordable housing for low-income residents. The development restores the historic site disturbance, removes more than an acre of debris and invasive plant species. The project included removal of contaminated soils, restoration of native plants and provided protection of critical river front areas. Also, new stormwater management measures mitigate hazardous runoffs into Woods Creek.
