City of North Las Vegas Downtown Library
Play - LibraryThe planned ‘Lake Mead Village West’ is an urban renewal development project that will transform the City of North Las Vegas’ downtown fabric. This progressive project will transform 4 acres of land that used to be occupied by the Washington Continuation School, Canyon Electric and other undeveloped plots of land into an experiential and educational campus. An existing 7,000 SF industrial building will be renovated into the Downtown Main Library – the anchor attraction. Not only will this project improve this section of land it will be the catalyst for change for the entire downtown area.
The Library, that currently resides in its temporary City Hall location, would increase its footprint by roughly 30%, with 10,500 SF spread over 2 floors. A vacated road adjacent to the building
will allow for an expanded lobby and celebrated entry at the pedestrian axis of the proposed campus. Existing garage doors will be replaced with glass garage doors to allow natural light to flood the main floor and allow patrons to flow freely from interior spaces to an exterior courtyard. In addition to the Adult collection stacks; a children’s corner, computer lab, STEM/ maker space, meeting rooms, career center administrative offices and support spaces are incorporated into the design.
The project will be an iconic destination for the Cities residents. A captivating façade with bright colors and artistic murals along with park amenities will attract patrons and instill a sense of community pride while providing a better quality of life for the downtown residents.
